Why 3D Mammography (Tomosynthesis)?
Did you know?
What are dense breasts and why does it matter?
Women with dense breasts are also at an increased risk of getting breast cancer. Put simply, breasts contain glandular, connective, and fat tissue. Dense breasts have relatively high amounts of glandular and connective tissue with relatively low amounts of fatty breast tissue. Studies show nearly half of all women over 40 have dense breasts. This can make it harder to find cancer and more difficult to read a mammogram.
What makes the GE ABUS breast ultrasound different?
- Mammography may miss more than a third of cancers in dense breast and the ABUS, when used in addition to mammography, can improve breast cancer detection by 37.5%
- The ABUS is designed for better patient comfort\
- ABUS has been shown to find small, invasive, node-negative cancers that are missed by mammography
- Exams are quick and performed by our highly qualified Sonographers and/or Radiology Technicians.
