Hysteroscopy is a way for your physician to take a good look inside of your uterus. This can be done in the office or the hospital. During this procedure, a speculum is placed in the vagina, much like during a Pap smear, and a lighted scope is inserted through the cervix into the uterus allowing the physician the opportunity to identify any masses including benign polyps, fibroid tumors or other abnormalities within the uterus which may contribute to symptoms such as irregular bleeding or discomfort.
